Features & Improvements

• Tables. Markdown tables render as tables with column alignment. Wide tables scroll sideways; tables survive export and import.
• Images in notes. Insert image on the editor toolbar opens the photo library on iPhone and Android, or a file dialog on Windows and macOS. Paste from the clipboard on every platform: Ctrl+V or ⌘V on desktop, or Paste in the long-press or right-click menu (shown as "Paste image" when the clipboard also holds text). Image files can be dropped onto the editor on Windows and macOS. Images are resized to at most 2560 px on the long side and stripped of all metadata, including location, before they are stored. Tap or click an image to view it full screen.
• Images with Sync and export. With Sync, images are encrypted on the device and backed up alongside recordings; other devices download them when the note is opened. The "Back up over mobile data" setting covers recordings and images, and the Backup section in account settings shows the status of each. Exports include the image files, a single-note export with images is a zip, and folder import restores them. Older versions of Engram show an image's link as plain text, so update every synced device.
• Save in place (desktop). Ctrl+S on Windows or ⌘S on macOS saves without leaving the editor; a first save creates the note.
• Formatting shortcuts. Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I (⌘B and ⌘I on macOS) for bold and italic; Tab and Shift+Tab indent and outdent list lines; Ctrl+Y redoes on Windows.
• Drag notes into folders (desktop). Drop a note onto a folder in the same list to move it, with Undo on the confirmation.

Bug Fixes

• Narrowing the window or switching a tablet layout while editing no longer discards unsaved changes.
• On wide layouts, arrow keys no longer move between notes while typing or searching.
• The drop cap appears only on prose notes shaped from audio.
• The "Search in…" placeholder no longer overflows long notebook names.
• The desktop microphone setting shows the selected device.

Engram 1.0 is the first full release: a private notebook that listens, transcribes, and shapes your voice into beautifully structured notes without your words ever leaving the device. It launches on Windows, macOS (Apple silicon), Android, and iPhone.

• On-device AI. Transcription and note structuring run locally on your phone and your computer. On a plane, in a basement, anywhere; no account and no connection needed. Desktops add GPU acceleration and a higher-accuracy transcription model where the hardware supports it.
• Capture anything spoken. Record a passing thought or a whole lecture, with Bluetooth and external microphones supported, or import audio and video you already have. Engram works from a video's audio track, extracted on your device; the video itself is never stored or uploaded. Optionally keep the source recording with each note and play it back later, with full background playback controls.
• Outline or prose. Switch any note between a scannable outline and flowing prose instantly. Edit freely; the original transcript is always kept.
• Organized your way. Notebooks, nestable folders, pinning, full-text search, find and replace, version history, and trash with recovery.
• Markdown in and out. Export any note or whole folders as plain Markdown, and import them back the same way. Your notes are never locked in.
• Optional Sync plan. End-to-end-encrypted sync and encrypted audio backup across your devices. Zero-knowledge by construction: we cannot read your notes.
• Optional Pro plan. Hosted cloud transcription for faster, more accurate processing, with 25 hours of audio per month. Audio is processed and then discarded, never stored. Includes Sync.
